10 Things A Real Estate Agent Should Never Leave Home Without

Your Smart Phone

These days, it’s not like anyone leaves the house (or the car, or the table, or the bathroom) without their phone ANYWAY, but as a real estate agent, it’s even more important to have your smart phone on you at all times.

Not only do you want to be accessible to your clients at all times, but you might want to post a listing, map directions to a new property or congratulate your client on their new home on social media. Having your smart phone with you – and charged – will let you do all of those things (and more) on the go.


Cleaning Essentials

There’s nothing worse than getting to your property 10 minutes before your clients and realizing that the cleanliness is just not up to your standards.

Keeping the essentials in your car, like kitchen cleaner and disinfectant wipes, will make sure that every inch of your property is squeaky clean before your showings.


Listing Printouts

After a showing, most people are going to want information on the home they just saw to take with them while they make their decision.

Always have a stack of listing printouts with photos and information on the home, like dimensions, new additions, features, property info and pricing for your clients to take with them.

You’ll want to have listing printouts for all of your properties – that way, if a client isn’t happy with the property you showed them, you can showcase the other homes you have available and figure out which might be a fit for them.

As a real estate agent, a big part of your job is speaking to people. And it’s impossible to speak to people confidently if you’re worried about whether they can smell the onions from your breakfast burrito on your breath.

Keep a toothbrush, mouthwash and gum with you at all times to avoid any awkward breath-related issues.


A Backup Business Outfit

The last thing you want is to miss a last-minute client meeting or networking event because you’re in your gym clothes and don’t have anything to change into.

Always keep some backup business attire with you for spur-of-the-moment opportunities.


Business Cards

As a real estate agent, you want to ABN – always be networking. You never know who you’re going to meet at the grocery store, your take away shop or at your kid’s dance recital.

Always have a few business cards handy so that if you meet a potential client or referral, you can leave them with a way to get in touch.

Air Freshener

Smell is one of the strongest senses and an off-putting smell, like the ones that tend to lurk around properties under construction, can mean the difference between a successful and unsuccessful showing. Your clients may like the house, but if they’re overwhelmed with the smell of paint or wood shavings, they’re going to want to hightail it out of there ASAP.

Keep an air freshener with a subtle scent with you and do a quick spray before you bring any clients through your property.


A Colouring Book

A lot of your clients are going to have children. And as adorable as those little ones are, they traditionally don’t have the biggest attention span and get pretty cranky going from property to property, helping their parent(s) check out potential new homes.

If you want to make your client’s experience significantly easier, have a colouring book and some crayons or colored pencils on hand.


Dog Treats

A lot of your clients are going to also have dogs. If you want to get on Fido’s good side, keep a few treats handy.


A Smile

Remember, your #1 job as a real estate agent is to build relationships. So make sure you never leave home without your smile.
